Purpose
The Hostel module manages room allocation for boarding students. As School Admin, you set up the hostel's rooms with their capacity, then assign boarding students to specific rooms โ keeping each room within its limit and giving you a clear picture of occupancy across the hostel at any time.
When to Use
- At the start of the year, when boarding students are admitted and need a room assigned.
- When a room reaches its capacity and you need to check availability elsewhere before allocating a new student.
- When a student needs to be moved between rooms mid-year (roommate conflict, maintenance, request from a parent).
- When checking overall hostel occupancy for planning or reporting purposes.
How to Use
-
Open Hostel from the Admin dashboard and go to Rooms to set up the hostel's room list, if not already done โ each room with its capacity.
-
Go to Allocation and select a boarding student who doesn't yet have a room assigned.

-
Choose an available room. Larnup only lets you assign a student to a room that has free capacity, so you won't accidentally overbook a room.
-
To move a student to a different room, unassign them from their current room and allocate them to the new one โ their room history is kept.
-
Use the occupancy view to see, at a glance, which rooms are full, partially filled, or empty across the hostel.
