Purpose
The Exams module is where a School Admin defines an exam before anything else in the exam lifecycle can happen. This is the master setup step: you give the exam a name and term, choose which classes and subjects it covers, and decide how it will be graded — marks-based, grade-based, or weighted across multiple components. Everything downstream depends on what you set up here. Once an exam exists, it can be scheduled into halls (Hall Allocation), staffed with invigilators (Invigilator Assignment), opened up for teachers to enter marks (Marks Entry), and finally processed into Report Cards.
Think of this module as the blueprint. Get the classes, subjects, and grading scheme right here, and the rest of the exam cycle follows the same rules automatically.
When to Use
- At the start of every term, to create the term's exams (Unit Test 1, Half-Yearly, Final, etc.) before scheduling begins.
- When a new grading scheme or weightage (e.g. 70% written + 30% practical) needs to be applied to an exam.
- When adding or removing a subject or class from an exam that hasn't started yet.
- When reviewing which exams are currently open, upcoming, or completed for the school.
How to Use
-
Open Exams from the Admin dashboard.
-
Select Create Exam and give it a name and term (for example, "Half-Yearly Examination 2026").
-
Choose which classes the exam applies to. You can create one exam that spans multiple classes, or separate exams per class if their subjects or schedules differ.

-
Select the subjects included for each class, and set the maximum marks (and, if relevant, pass marks) for each subject.
-
Define the grading scheme — either a simple marks/percentage scheme or a weighted one that combines multiple components like theory and practical.
-
Save the exam. It now appears in your exams list as Draft or Setup Complete, ready for the next stage.
-
From the exam's detail page, move on to Hall Allocation and Invigilator Assignment to schedule it, or jump straight to Marks Entry if the exam doesn't need hall scheduling.
