Purpose

The Academic Session defines your school year — its start and end dates, and which session is currently active. Almost everything else in Larnup runs against this session: attendance, timetables, fee structures, and report cards are all tied to a specific academic year. Getting the session set up correctly at the start of the year, and closing it out properly at the end, keeps the rest of the app consistent.

When to Use

  • At the start of a new school year, to create and activate the new session.
  • When you need to check or adjust the current session's start or end date.
  • At year-end, before promoting students to their next class.
  • When you need to look back at data from a previous academic session.

How to Use

  1. Open Academic Session from the Admin Panel.

  2. Review the current active session and its start/end dates.

  3. To start a new session, create it with the correct start and end dates, then mark it as the active session.

  4. Once the new session is active, use the promotion flow to move students from their current class into their next class for the new year.

  5. Older sessions remain visible for reference — you can switch context to a past session to review historical records.

TipSet up the new academic session a little before it actually begins, so timetables, fee structures, and classes can be configured ahead of the first day rather than scrambled together at the last minute.
Common MistakeActivating a new session before student promotion is complete can cause confusion — student records may look like they're in the wrong class until promotion is run, so do promotion first, right after activating the new session.
