Purpose

Once routes and vehicles are set up by the School Admin, running a trip is the Driver's part of Transport — and it's what makes live tracking and student boarding records exist in the first place. This page covers the trip lifecycle at a glance; for the full step-by-step Driver experience, including navigation, see the Driver Guide.

When to Use

  • You're a Driver about to start your route for the day.
  • You need a refresher on pausing and resuming a trip correctly.
  • You're an Admin or Parent trying to understand what a Driver is doing at each stage of a trip.
  • A trip didn't behave as expected (didn't show live, students weren't marked) and you want to check which step was missed.

How to Use

  1. Open the Driver app and select the assigned vehicle and route for the day.

  2. Tap Start Trip. This begins continuous live GPS tracking — from this moment, Parents on this route can see the bus moving on their map.

  3. As you approach each stop, mark students boarded as they get on. The app uses the route's stop order to guide you through the trip.

  4. On the return leg (or at drop-off stops), mark students dropped as they get off.

  5. If you need to stop moving for a genuine reason — a fuel stop, waiting out traffic — use Pause, and Resume once you're moving again. This keeps the trip session going without ending it.

  6. Built-in turn-by-turn navigation is available during the trip to help you follow the route and reach each stop.

  7. Once the last stop is complete, tap End Trip. This stops live tracking and closes out the trip record for the day.

  8. If something goes wrong mid-trip — a breakdown, an accident, any emergency — use the incident reporting option rather than waiting until the trip ends. See Emergencies & Incidents.

TipMark students boarded and dropped as it happens, not in a batch afterward — Parents' live views and notifications depend on these updates happening in real time.
TipUse Pause instead of ending the trip for short stops — ending and restarting a trip creates a gap in tracking that Parents will notice on their map.
Common MistakeDon't forget to tap End Trip once the route is complete — a trip left "running" keeps showing as live to Parents and can cause confusion the next time you're due to start.
Common MistakeStarting a trip requires both a route and a vehicle assignment already in place — if Start Trip isn't available, the issue is almost always missing setup on the Admin side, not something wrong with your app.
